Dragons, White Walkers, and Direwolves? Animated? Oh my.

This is a title that we could see working very well. According to some sources over at The Hollywood Reporter, a 'Game of Thrones' animated series is in its early stages of development for WarnerMedia.

The early in development drama series would be a new title for streamer HBO Max. According to THR, a number of meetings have taken place with suitable writers for the adult-themed spin-off series. Apparently, this was in the pipeline long before a raft of Disney+'s 'Star Wars' properties were announced last year.

Author George R. R. Martin is believed to be heavily involved in the project (Martin, seriously, where are those two final books), which will lead to the expansion of the core 'Game of Thrones' TV series that captivated us all between 2011 to 2019. We're looking forward to seeing what mythical creatures will be popping up in this new iteration of the fantasy franchise.

This 'Game of Thrones' animated series is the second potential new venture for HBO Max. Earlier this week it was confirmed that discussions were underway for a 'Tales of Dunk and Egg' series, inspired by Martin's novellas.

Should both of these new properties see the light of day in the coming years, they will join 'House of the Dragon' as a second and third 'GOT'-influenced spin-off series. Due to air in 2022, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D'Arcy, and Paddy Considine will star in the first spin-off series, set hundreds of years earlier than anything we've seen on screen thus far.

HBO Max has been a glutton for reviving waning properties of late. Most recently, a 'Sex and the City' revival and 'Harry Potter' reboot series are in the pipeline.
